Find your job as a technician

What career opportunities are there for a technician?

A career as a technician opens up exciting avenues for professional growth. With rapid transformations in technology alongside increasing demand for skilled technicians, the industry offers a wealth of opportunities. Starting your journey as a technician can serve as a stepping-stone towards higher-level positions, including team leader, supervisor, project manager, or technical specialist. As you gain experience and expertise, you will have the chance to work on innovative projects, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and expand your skillset through continual training and professional development. The potential for career progression is vast, and technicians often find themselves at the forefront of technological advancements, making meaningful contributions to their industries and the world around them.

How much does a technician earn?

Earning potential for technicians can vary depending on several factors, including industry, experience, location, and level of expertise. Technician jobs in Switzerland are renowned for offering competitive salaries that reflect the value of your skills - on average, technicians in Switzerland can earn between CHF 60,000 and CHF 90,000 per year. However, it's important to note that these figures are approximate, and actual salaries may differ based on qualifications and the specific job position. With more experience, further specialization, and continuous learning, you can unlock higher earning potential and financial rewards.

What education do technicians require?

To excel as a technician, acquiring the right education and qualifications is crucial. However, while some technician roles may only require a high school diploma or the equivalent, many positions demand specialized technical training or a university degree in a relevant field. It’s essential to first understand the specific requirements for the technician jobs you're interested in before applying – if you find you require additional skills or qualifications, you can then work on acquiring them, so you are fully prepared for your dream role. Moreover, additional education, certifications, and licenses can enhance your marketability and open doors to more lucrative opportunities in your chosen field.

With a diverse range of industries and roles to choose from, technicians can find their niche and contribute significantly to their chosen field. As a technician, you can experience exciting career prospects, receive a competitive salary, and benefit from continuous learning and opportunities for growth. By investing in your education and acquiring the necessary qualifications, you can position yourself for success within your chosen field.

Requirements for technicians

Have you completed a three-year EFZ apprenticeship? Wonderful, you have created a solid basis on which you can continue your education to become a technician - either full-time or part-time. Two paths now lead to your dream job:

1. you take a professional examination and receive a federal certificate of proficiency (FA). Now you can, if you wish, work for a few years and gain practical experience, and then take a higher professional examination. In doing so, you secure a federal diploma that qualifies you as an expert in your professional field and prepares you for managing a company. Holders of a federal diploma may also be responsible for training apprentices.

2. you choose to attend a college of higher education to earn a federally recognized degree in your chosen specialization. Graduates receive a federally recognized HF diploma with the corresponding protected title, e.g. "dipl. Techniker HF Maschinenbau".
